If you're still not satisfied, you can return your Sloom Mattress between 60 and 100 days for a full refund.
I ordered the wrong size. Can I do a size exchange?
Yes, you can do a size exchange, but a 10% service fee will be charged and the trial period will be void on the second mattress.
QUALITY & PERFORMANCE
Is the Sloom Mattress the best mattress for back pain in South Africa?
The Sloom Mattress is one of the best mattresses for back pain in South Africa. It was specifically designed to provide proper back support, with five ergonomic zones that align the spine and reduce pressure on shoulders and hips. Its adjustable firmness lets you tailor support to your body type and sleep position for optimal spinal health. Many customers have reported noticeable relief from back and neck discomfort after switching to a Sloom Mattress.
While a supportive mattress is an important first step, back pain can have complex causes such as old injuries or posture habits, so a mattress alone may not fully resolve every case.
What foam is used in the Sloom Mattress?
The Sloom Mattress is made from locally produced, high-quality, pure virgin foams with no fillers, designed for durability, support, and long-lasting comfort. All foams are quality-tested to ensure consistent comfort for years of restful sleep.
Does compression damage the Sloom Mattress foam?
No. The Sloom Mattress is made with high-resilience foam designed to compress safely for shipping. It will fully expand once unboxed and maintain its shape for years. For best results, avoid keeping it boxed for longer than 30 days.
Does the Sloom Mattress sleep hot or stay cool?
Foam mattresses can retain more heat than spring mattresses, but the Sloom Mattress is designed for cool, breathable sleep. It uses open-cell, high-density memory foam combined with high-resilience (cool latex) foam to improve airflow and prevent overheating. The zoned core has built-in ventilation channels that enhance temperature regulation across the entire mattress.
For the coolest sleep experience, select the Medium or Firm Sloom Mattress firmness, as these layers allow less body sink-in and promote better airflow. Pair your mattress with a slatted Sloom Bed Base, breathable bedding and Sloom Cooling Mattress Protector to maximise ventilation and maintain an even sleep temperature.
Does the Sloom Mattress have a strong odour or off-gassing?
Like most memory foam mattresses, the Sloom Mattress may have a mild "new mattress" smell when first unboxed due to being sealed in plastic packaging. The foam is made from safe, low-emission materials, so any scent is completely harmless to you and your pets. If the smell feels a bit strong, simply let the mattress air out in a well-ventilated room for a day or two.
Is the Sloom Mattress hypoallergenic?
Yes. The Sloom Mattress is hypoallergenic, anti-bacterial, and dust-mite resistant. It contains no harmful flame retardants or toxic materials.
Why does the foam inside my Sloom Mattress turn yellow?
It's normal for the foam inside your Sloom Mattress to turn slightly yellow over time. This discolouration happens naturally as the pure memory foam is exposed to air, light, and humidity, and does not affect comfort, performance, or durability. Sloom uses only high-quality, pure foam with no added fillers or artificial whitening agents, so a colour change is a sign of authentic materials - not wear, damage, quality or manufacturing fault.
How does the Sloom Mattress differ from a pocket coil or spring mattress?
Unlike a pocket coil mattress that uses individual springs for support, the Sloom Mattress is made from high-density, pure foam that adapts to your body for more consistent comfort and pressure relief. While pocket coils can feel bouncier, Sloom's 33-density foam offers superior durability, motion isolation, and long-term support for all types of sleepers. The high-quality foam core provides the same level of structure as premium pocket coils, without the risk of sagging or noise over time.
Do you use natural latex in the Sloom Mattress?
No, we don't use imported natural latex, as it isn't produced locally in South Africa. Instead, the Sloom Team developed a locally made latex-like foam layer that offers the same key quality, durability, and breathability without the high cost or environmental impact of imports. By producing our foam locally, we're able to deliver a more sustainable, affordable, and high-performance alternative to natural latex.
CARE & MAINTENANCE
Do I have to turn a Sloom Mattress?
No, there is no need to turn over your Sloom Mattress, but we recommend rotating the mattress top to bottom every four to six months.
Do I need a mattress protector?
We recommend that you use a mattress protector to protect your mattress against spills and other fluids. A mattress protector increases the lifespan of the mattress. A fitted sheet should be placed over the mattress protector.
Is the Sloom Mattress cover machine-washable?
Yes. The top white knitted part of the Sloom Mattress cover is removable and machine-washable. Do not wash the bottom grey part of the cover. Care instructions:
Unzip and remove the cover.
Machine wash on a cold, gentle cycle (below 30 °C) with mild detergent.
Air-dry completely before refitting.
Do not bleach, tumble-dry, iron or dry clean.
Can I use an electric blanket with my Sloom Mattress?
Yes, you can use an electric blanket with your Sloom Mattress. However, we recommend following these guidelines to maintain the quality and longevity of your mattress:
Use a low to moderate heat setting to preserve the texture and support of the foam.
High heat over time may slightly alter the firmness of the memory foam.
Turn off the blanket when not in use.
MODULAR COMFORT
What makes the Sloom mattress modular?
The Sloom Mattress is modular, meaning you can easily adjust its firmness at home. It includes three foam layers that can be rearranged to create soft, medium, or firm comfort. If you've tried all three combinations and still want a different feel, the modular design makes it simple to exchange specific layers to fine-tune the comfort even further.
How do I choose the right comfort level for my Sloom Mattress?
The Sloom Mattress comes preset to the Soft comfort level, but you can easily adjust it to Medium or Firm by rearranging the foam layers inside the cover. Medium firmness is a great starting point to let your body adjust. If you prefer more or less support, simply flip or swap the layers. This modular design makes it easy to find your ideal Sloom Mattress firmness at home.
How do I change the firmness of my Sloom Mattress?
Zip open the Sloom Mattress cover and rearrange the colour-coded foam layers so your preferred firmness faces upward:
White = Soft Pink = Medium Blue = Firm
To firm up your comfort further, you can add our Firm+ upgrade for more custom support.
When should I change my Sloom mattress firmness level?
The Sloom Mattress is South Africa's first and only modular mattress, allowing you to adjust firmness when your body or lifestyle changes. You may want to change firmness during pregnancy, weight loss or gain, or while recovering from an injury or surgery. A softer layer can also help relieve tension in overworked muscles.
What is split comfort on the Sloom mattress?
Split comfort means each side can have a different firmness. The split foam design reduces motion transfer, and the 500gsm cover makes the surface smooth, without feeling the split down the middle. Split Comfort is only available on Sloom's Queen, King, and Cape Town King mattresses.
Can you feel the split in the split comfort Sloom mattress?
No. The luxury 500gsm cover keeps both sides aligned, so a gap won't be felt. If one side is firm and the other soft, you may feel the transition.
DELIVERY & SETUP
How do I unbox my Sloom Mattress?
To unbox your Sloom Mattress, tip the box on its side and slide the rolled mattress onto your base. Do not cut the plastic while the mattress is compressed and rolled up, as you could cut into the cover. Carefully open the first layer of plastic by pulling at the heat seal and unrolling the plastic, tearing by hand if needed. Unroll the mattress with the white side facing up and the label at the foot of the bed. Cut the final layer of plastic at the end farthest from the mattress and allow it to expand for a few minutes. Remove all plastic, make your bed, and enjoy a great night's sleep.
The mattress can stay in its compressed state without compromising the foams for a month, but we recommend that you remove it from the box upon receipt.
How long after I have taken the mattress out of its packaging can I sleep on it?
You can sleep on your mattress immediately after unpacking. While it may take up to 24 hours to fully decompress, the final expansion is minimal and won't affect comfort or support.
Will I be able to fit the Sloom bed-in-a-box in my car?
The Cape Town King has the largest box with dimensions of 216 cm x 33 cm x 33 cm and a weight of 46 kg. Should your car have space for these dimensions, then it will fit in your car.
COMPATIBILITY & SIZES
What is the weight limit of the Sloom Mattress?
The Sloom Mattress supports up to 150 kg per person. The dense foam prevents sagging and keeps consistent comfort for heavier sleepers.
What is an inappropriate foundation or base for my Sloom Mattress?
The Sloom Mattress can be placed on any surface, but some are less ideal for support, heat build-up, and zero motion transfer. An uneven foundation that doesn't keep the mattress level when slept upon will affect your sleep and support. Old box spring bases will not support your Sloom Mattress. The base also affects the mattress's overall breathability, so using anything other than a slatted base might affect how hot you sleep and cause condensation in humid environments.
Does the mattress work with an adjustable base?
Yes, the Sloom Mattress is compatible with an adjustable base.
What is the Cape Town King Sloom mattress?
The Cape Town King is the biggest bed in South Africa, measuring 200 cm × 214 cm. It offers extra space for couples or families. Sloom also offers bedframes and linen designed to fit the Cape Town King size perfectly.
Does Sloom make custom mattress sizes?
No. The Sloom Mattress is available only in standard South African sizes: Single, Three-Quarter, Double, Queen, King (including extra-length options), as well as the Cape Town King, which is exclusive to Sloom.

How do I care for my Sloom Bed Frame?
To keep your Sloom Upholstered Bed Frame looking its best, vacuum the fabric regularly with a soft brush attachment to remove dust. For spills, blot gently with a damp cloth and mild soap - never rub harshly or use strong chemicals. Avoid direct sunlight or heat sources to prevent fading.
To maintain the elegance of your Sloom Oak Edge Bed Frame, dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For cleaning the wooden edge, use a mild, non-abrasive cleaner with a soft, damp cloth to remove residue, ensuring you wipe it dry immediately. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals that may damage the finish, as well as direct sunlight, extreme heat, or moisture, to prevent discolouration or warping.

PILLOW FAQ
Customising Your Comfort
What makes the Sloom Adjustable Pillow different?
The Sloom Adjustable Pillow is a fully customisable 100% memory foam pillow designed for personalised comfort. It contains only pure memory foam (no microfibre or filler foams), ensuring long-lasting support for your head and neck. You can easily adjust the pillow's height, firmness, and support by adding or removing memory foam chips to suit your preferred comfort level. Known as one of the best adjustable pillows in South Africa, it offers tailored comfort that adapts to every sleeper.
How do I adjust the height and firmness of the Sloom Adjustable Pillow?
To adjust your Sloom Adjustable Pillow, unzip both the outer knitted cover and the inner memory foam sleeve. Add or remove the memory foam chips to achieve your preferred height, firmness, and support. Keep any removed foam in a sealed bag so you can readjust the firmness later if your comfort needs change. Additional memory foam chips can be purchased here.
Is the Sloom Adjustable Pillow good for neck or shoulder pain?
Yes. The Sloom Adjustable Pillow provides personalised neck alignment and pressure relief. By changing the fill level, you can create the ideal height and firmness to support your spine and reduce strain on your shoulders and neck. It's considered one of the best pillows for neck pain in South Africa, helping improve posture and reduce stiffness over time - according to reviews.
Quality & Performance
Does the Sloom Adjustable Pillow sleep hot?
No. The Sloom Adjustable Pillow uses chipped memory foam that allows air to flow freely and prevents heat build-up compared to solid foam pillows. This breathable, adjustable memory foam design keeps the pillow cool and comfortable throughout the night. The pillowcase and bedding you use can also affect temperature and airflow.
What is the Sloom Adjustable Pillow made from?
Each Sloom Adjustable Pillow is made from premium, high-density shredded memory foam encased in a removable, breathable knit cover. The foam is locally produced, non-toxic, and free from additives or fillers, ensuring long-term durability and consistent comfort.
How long does a Sloom Adjustable Pillow last?
The Sloom Adjustable Pillow is designed for lasting comfort and consistent support over time. Its high-density memory foam maintains shape and structure far better than traditional fibre-filled pillows. With proper care, including regular airing out, gentle fluffing, and using a pillow protector, your Sloom Adjustable Pillow will continue to deliver personalised comfort for many years. Additional memory foam chips can be purchased.
Is the Sloom Adjustable Pillow hypoallergenic?
Yes. The Sloom Adjustable Pillow is hypoallergenic, dust-mite resistant, and anti-bacterial, making it suitable for sensitive sleepers. The materials are safe and non-toxic.
Why does the foam inside my Sloom Adjustable Pillow turn yellow?
It's completely normal for the memory foam inside your Sloom Adjustable Pillow to turn slightly yellow over time. This natural discolouration happens as the foam is exposed to air, light, and moisture, and does not affect the pillow's comfort or hygiene. Sloom uses pure, high-quality memory foam without artificial whitening agents or fillers, which ensures safety, durability, and long-term support, even if the foam changes colour over time.
Why does the memory foam filling inside my Sloom Adjustable Pillow look different from the photos?
The Sloom Pillow is filled with a custom blend of premium materials to ensure optimal comfort. We utilise a mixture of standard memory foam and gel memory foam. Since these foams differ in colour (typically white and blue), the visual ratio of chips may vary from pillow to pillow. This colour difference is purely visual and a variation in the look of the filling does not affect the pillow's support, comfort, or quality in any way.
Setup & Care
Why is my new Sloom Pillow flat and hard?
The Sloom Pillow is vacuum-sealed and compressed for delivery, which may cause the memory foam chips to stick together, making the pillow feel flat or hard initially. While the pillow will naturally fully recover its shape within 48 hours, you can speed up the expansion process with these steps:
Puff it up: Vigorously shake and fluff the pillow to introduce air.
Loosen the foam: For the fastest results, open both zip covers and separate the memory foam chips by hand.
How do I clean and care for my Sloom Pillow?
To keep your pillow supportive and fresh for years to come, follow these simple care guidelines:
Washable Knitted Cover: The removable outer cover is machine-washable. Use a cold, gentle cycle (below 30°C) with a mild detergent. Air-dry only, do not bleach, tumble-dry, or iron.
Never wash the memory foam inner cover or foam chips. Water compromises the structure of memory foam and will cause it to lose its supportive properties.
Always use a pillowcase over the Sloom pillow. This adds a layer of protection and reduces the need for frequent washing of the outer cover.
Regularly fluff or shake your pillow to redistribute the foam chips. This prevents clumping and ensures the loft and support stay consistent over time.
Pro-Tip: What if the foam gets wet? Accidents happen! If the foam accidentally gets wet, remove it from the sleeve and spread it out to air-dry completely in a clean, dry space (like a dry bathtub) before putting it back into the cover.
Can I use the Sloom Adjustable Pillow with any pillowcase?
Yes. The Sloom Adjustable Pillow fits most standard pillowcases for its size. For best results, use a breathable 100% cotton pillowcase to maintain airflow and ensure comfort.
Sizes & Dimensions
How thick is the Sloom Adjustable Pillow?
The Standard Sloom Adjustable Pillow has a default height of around 20 cm, while the King-size Adjustable Pillow measures about 24 cm. You can adjust the pillow's height and loft by adding or removing memory foam chips until it perfectly supports your neck and sleeping position.
What sizes are available for the Sloom Adjustable Pillow?
The Sloom Adjustable Pillow is available in Standard (70 cm × 45 cm) and King (90 cm × 45 cm) sizes. Both options include adjustable memory foam filling, allowing you to set the perfect loft regardless of your sleeping position.

MATTRESS TOPPER FAQ
GENERAL
Why would you need a mattress topper?
The Sloom Mattress Topper can be added to an existing mattress to create a softer sleeping surface. It helps reduce pressure points and adds plush comfort to a supportive bed. However, it will not fix a worn-out or sagging mattress. If your mattress no longer provides proper support, it's best to replace it.
Can I use the Sloom Mattress Topper on a Sloom Mattress?
Yes, but since the Sloom Mattress is fully adjustable, we suggest trying the softest setting before adding a topper. Most sleepers find their perfect comfort level by arranging the Sloom Mattress to the softest setting.
Added Height & Plushness: If you still desire extra loft or an ultra-plush feel after adjusting the layers, the Sloom Mattress Topper is a great addition to add height and luxurious softness to your bed.
Can the Sloom Mattress Topper be used on any mattress?
Yes. The topper can be used on any mattress that still offers adequate support for your back. If your mattress feels too firm but is in good condition, adding the Sloom Mattress Topper will enhance its comfort with a softer, more cushioned feel.
Can the Sloom Mattress Topper fix an unsupportive or old mattress?
No. A mattress topper is designed to enhance comfort, not to restore support to a worn-out mattress. If your mattress is sagging or lacks support, replacing it will provide the best long-term comfort and alignment.
I ordered the wrong size. Can I do a size exchange?
Yes, you can do a size exchange, but a 10% service fee will be charged. Please notify us within 7 days after delivery.

Bed Frames: Some bed frames are made to order and require a manufacturing lead time. This status will be clearly displayed on the product page
Three-Quarter Extra Length Mattresses: We hold limited stock of this specific size, so it may have a longer lead time.
How much do you charge for delivery?
Standard delivery is free of charge nationwide. We also offer premium delivery for R350 in Gauteng and Cape Town, which includes scheduled delivery, in-home setup and assembly.
What is the difference between standard delivery and premium delivery?
Standard delivery is handled by our courier partners, with delivery times based on their routes and schedules.
Premium delivery allows you to choose a specific delivery date and includes in-home setup and assembly. This service is available only in Gauteng and Cape Town.
When can I expect my delivery?
Standard delivery to main centres takes approximately 2–5 working days. Outlying areas may take a few extra days.
Premium delivery orders (for Gauteng and Cape Town) are delivered the next working day or on a date you schedule with our Sloom delivery team, provided all items are in stock.
Made-to-order items have a lead time of around 12-14 working days.
Can I collect my order instead of having it delivered?
Yes. During checkout, simply select the “Collect” option and choose either our Johannesburg or Cape Town warehouse. Once your order is ready, we’ll notify you, and you can collect it at your convenience.
Do you remove old mattresses?
Our logistics partners do not provide removal services, and this is not included in our premium delivery option. You’ll need to make your own arrangements for old mattress removal.
Can I track my order?
Yes. Once your order has been dispatched from our warehouse, you’ll receive a tracking number so you can follow your delivery’s progress.
Do you offer an in-home delivery setup?
Yes. Our premium delivery service includes in-home delivery and setup, available in Gauteng and Cape Town. If you’d like help getting your products into your room and assembled, select the premium delivery option during checkout.
TRIAL & RETURNS FAQ
How does the 100 Nights trial work?
The Sloom 100-night trial lets you test your mattress in the comfort of your own home. It can take time for your body to adjust to a new mattress, so we recommend sleeping on it for at least 60 nights. Try each firmness level for around 30 days. If between days 60 and 100 you are still not satisfied, we’ll arrange a free collection and issue a full refund.
Are there any terms and conditions for the 100-night trial?
The 100-night trial applies only to the original purchaser and is limited to one mattress per customer. Proof of purchase must be provided. The trial will be void if the mattress is found in an unsanitary, stained, burnt, torn, or dirty condition, has been abused or damaged, or has been used on an inappropriate base. The sleep trial also excludes customers who exceed the 150 kg per person mattress weight limit. Please see the Terms and Conditions page for full details.
What is the process for returning Sloom products?
To return a product, please complete the return form or email info@sloom.co.za with your order number. Our Sloom support team will contact you to arrange a collection date, which will typically take place within 5 working days. This process applies to customers returning any products under the standard return policy.
What happens to returned Sloom Mattresses?
Around 3% of Sloom Mattresses are returned. These lightly used mattresses are never resold as new. Once a year, we sell them at a fraction of the cost, and 100% of the proceeds are donated to charity. Some mattresses are also donated directly to our partner organisations.

How does the Sloom warranty work?
Sloom Mattress (25-Year Warranty) The mattress comes with a 25-year service warranty.
First 2 Years Covered by a full factory guarantee against faulty materials or workmanship. We will repair or replace defective mattresses at no cost.
After 2 Years: A service charge applies. This is calculated by dividing the current retail price by the warranty period (25) and multiplying it by the number of years since purchase.
Example: For a mattress currently retailing at R11,000 owned for 4 years:
R11,000 ÷ 25 years = R440 × 4 years = R1,760 service charge.
Sloom Bed Frame (10-Year Warranty) The bed frame includes a 10-year service warranty.
First 2 Years: Covered by a full guarantee against manufacturing faults.
After 2 Years: A similar service warranty structure applies for the remaining 8 years, ensuring you have long-term support for your bed base.
Do you resell returned mattresses?
No. Sloom will never repackage or resell a used mattress as new. Returned or demo mattresses are either recycled, donated to our chosen charities, or sold once a year, as demo models, at a fraction of the cost, with 100% of the proceeds going to good causes. Please double-check your mattress size before ordering, as once opened, it cannot be recompressed into its box.
Does the 100-night trial apply to all Sloom products?
No. The 100-night trial applies only to Sloom Mattresses. Other products such as pillows, toppers, bedding, bed frames, and accessories fall under the standard 7-day return policy. For these products, items must be unused and returned in their original packaging.
